Chicago (17th ed.) Style Guide: Page Number Ranges

An introductory guide to creating notes and bibliography entries in accordance with the 17th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (2017).

 

 

PAGE NUMBER RANGES — Numbers Lower Than 100

 

    USED FOR:

  • Displaying page ranges when the first page number is 99 or below.


    EXAMPLES:

  • 1-2
  • 13-17
  • 49-50
  • 80-81
  • 99-100
  • 99-102

 


 

PAGE NUMBER RANGES — Numbers Ending in 00

    

USED FOR:

  • Displaying page ranges when the first page number ends in 00.


    EXAMPLES:

  • 100-101
  • 200-203
  • 500-518
  • 1000-1001
  • 2200-2211

 


 

PAGE NUMBER RANGES — Numbers Ending in 01 through 09

    

USED FOR:

  • Displaying page ranges when the first page number ends in 01 through 09.


    EXAMPLES:

  • 101-2
  • 304-8
  • 909-10
  • 1001-2
  • 3507-19

 


 

PAGE NUMBER RANGES — Triple-Digit and Higher Numbers Not Ending in 00 or 0x

    

USED FOR:

  • Displaying page ranges when the first page number is a triple-digit or higher number that does not end in 00 or 0x.
